Moscow is the capital of Russia. The city is a mixture of Asia and Europe, a combination of traditional Russian architecture and Soviet heritage. Moscow`s numerous sights, vibrant nightlife and relaxing green parks- all that attracts million tourists every year and makes it a wonderful travel destination.

 

Red Square is the must-see sight of Moscow.  It is the largest and most famous square in Russia; in 1990 it was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Standing in Red Square, you can see the most significant buildings in the capital: the Kremlin, GUM department store, the State History Museum, Lenin’s Mausoleum and, of course, the beautiful St Basil’s Cathedral.

Not many people realize that Red Square’s name has nothing to do with Communism or Soviet Russia. The old Russian word for ‘beautiful’ and ‘red’ was the same; Red Square means “Beautiful Square”.

 

The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour – majestic inside and out, is the tallest Eastern Orthodox Church in the world, having been designed to accommodate 10,000 people.

 

One more beloved spot, both for locals and tourist, is Arbat Street. It is an elegant promenade with lots of cafes, restaurants, musical performers and souvenir shops.

 

 The Moscow Metro is recognized as the most beautiful metro systems in the world. Many of the stations are decorated with themed panels, mosaics, chandeliers, sculptures and stain-glassed windows of various artistic styles and look more like underground palaces than metro stations.

 

Home to one of Europe’s tallest office buildings, Moscow City, is most ambitious engineering projects of Russia over recent years. With its various high-rises, the business district is where you should come for great crowd-free shopping and the best panoramic views of the city.

 

Moscow is a very developed and urbanized city and there are many places to visit, not only in the center of the city and its famous Red Square, but also the museums, cathedrals, parks, Soviet buildings and tourist attractions that are spread all over the city.
